28 star flag The 28 Star Flag .    1846-1847

It's after dark on July 5th, 1846 and our new flag is still flying. It should have been taken down at sunset, but folks around here are still recovering from yesterday's big Independence Day party. One Franklin resident, Otis T. Cornball, happens to glance up at the flag illuminated by the moonlight and remarks, "The stars at night are big and bright........" Yes, you guessed it! The 28th star commemorates the entrance of the great State of Texas into the Union on December 29, 1845.
