The 43 Star Flag .    1890 - 1891 Wow! After saluting the 38 star flag for 13 years, we get a new flag with five new stars! They are in recognition of the entry of North and South Dakota, Washington, Idaho, and Montana into the Union. This one won't last long - only a year - a really dull and boring year. About the only exciting thing that happens is that Franklin does away with the hated oppressive Dog Tax. Scroll down to see what little is happening in the U. S and the rest of the world.

• Edwin Chick Burleigh , 1888-1893 is Governor.
• The American Federation of Labor becomes active in Maine.

And in the Town of Franklin in 1891:

•  Selectmen are: O. Calvin Donnell, Emery W. Smith, and Fred E. Blaisdell.
•  The Dog Tax is lifted.
